2019 Recipient

Niles Hattaway is the son of Gregory & Eunice Hattaway and a recent graduate of Baker High School. As a student, he has maintained to stay at the top of his class with a 4.1 weighted GPA. In addition to his exemplary academic performance, he has excelled in athletics as a defensive player on his school’s Varsity Football team and as a long/triple jump Track and Field team member. He aspires to bring his talents, as a walk-on to FAMU’s baseball team. Niles has always desired to live in the “sunshine state” and his acceptance to Florida A&M University was conformation that he is meant to be there. His combined love of mathematics and art lead to his intended major of Architecture. Niles believes it is important for him to attend a HBCU because “you are guaranteed a top-notch quality education regardless of ethnicity or religious background”. Furthermore, Niles has held down a part-time job at Texas Roadhouse over the course of his junior and senior years. Diligent, well-mannered and charismatic are just a few words one could use when describing Niles. With these traits, he is sure to stand out as a student and athlete on the “highest of seven hills”!
